Welcome to CCRL

Collaborative Controls and Robotics Lab

Research Overview

The Collaborative Controls & Robotics Laboratory (CCRL) conducts research in the area of networked control systems, in particular with application to the control and coordination of mobile robots.

Meet Our Team

Dr. Yancy Diaz-Mercado joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) as an Assistant Professor in 2018, where he established the Collaborative Controls and Robotics Laboratory (CCRL). Our research focus is on developing collaborative autonomy for multi-agent and robotic systems using tools from control, optimization and graph theories for the sake of enabling safe and natural human-robot swarm interactions.

Before joining the faculty at UMD, Dr. Diaz was a senior professional engineer with the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL) and a member of the Advanced Concepts section within the Guidance, Navigation and Controls group. He earned his PhD degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2016, and an MS degree from the same institution in 2014. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez in 2011.
